When people come to New York, whether it be for business or pleasure, it’s often missed that Westchester has historical places to stay that are convenient to New York City.

In the quaint Village of Croton-On-Hudson on a quiet dead end street that has sweeping views of  the river, sits the grand Alexander Hamilton House Bed and Breakfast.

Although built in 1889, the Alexander Hamilton House came into operation as a bed and breakfast in 1982 under the direction and ownership of Barbara Notarius who wrote the book Open Your Own Bed and Breakfast.

Upon entering, one senses the history within and surrounding the 11,000 square foot home.  Convenient to shopping, antiquing, bike trails, a recently completed riverwalk, and a train station that will take visitors to New York City and back, the Alexander Hamilton House offers that quiet weekend getaway with a loved one or a business stay that may seem more like a respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life that would make a typical day more like a vacation.

Despite it’s elegance, a welcoming and homey feeling exists where a person can feel relaxed and comforted upon entering the doors. A Victorian beauty abounds while the luxuries of modern day living are provided.

Wandering from one room to the next would have a person debating which room was the best.  A favorite may be picked at first.  Then, with each room another favorite will exist to a point where a visitor may just sigh and say, “I love it all.”  There’s so much to take in within the home, but the feeling of the home is what draws a person to linger.

The warm feeling of the sun streaming through the windows throughout the house, and the large amount of fireplaces existing in the home with peace and historical ambiance might be more than enough to make the stay much better than any hotel, but the fact that Tom, the Innkeeper, is so ready and willing to greet anyone with open arms might make a person feel like the visit is more personal than any hotel visit.  This isn’t just visiting a bed and breakfast.  This is like visiting a very helpful, old friend.

Each room comes equipped with a well organized binder that allows a guest to find restaurants and interesting places to visit and shop.  Even a last minute romantic vacation can seem planned with the well organized information provided to guests.  Every room is unique in appeal and has a bathroom dedicated to it.

The night prior, guests can sign up for breakfast, and will be pleasantly surprised with the selection.  For a small fee, Tom will pack a picnic lunch for visitors to take with them on their journey around Croton-on-Hudson. Other special touches can be added to make the night special including flowers, chocolate covered strawberries, in room massages, candlelit dinners for two, and fruit and cheese plates.

The Alexander Hamilton House isn’t limited to just romantic getaways and business trips.  Many packages are available such as women’s retreats and group meetings.

Just a 45 minute train ride to New York City, this bed and breakfast provides the ability to visit the city while experiencing the peace and serenity of a time that stands still at the Alexander Hamilton House.  For those in the city, it’s a refuge such a short distance away, that a romantic weekend can be planned without  having to worry about travel time.
